The village of West Tanfield is within a short walking distance of the Retreats and there are a number of local amenities including a shop and Post Office, and two village pubs: The Bruce Arms and The Bull Inn with its riverside setting and renowned Black Sheep beer. There is a children’s playground, fishing along the banks of the River Ure and tennis Courts for public use.

The Bull Inn – A 5 minute walk to the village The Bull Inn with a selection of real ales and locally produced food, The Bull Inn is a traditional pub with fantastic beer and a garden overlooking the River Ure. It’s a great local pub with a warm and friendly atmosphere.

Freemasons Arms, Nosterfield – A really traditional pub that serves great food. It would make a nice walk there and back about 1.5 miles through the nature reserve.

Local Shops and Post Office

In the heart of the village the post office provides a friendly and efficient service with a well stocked local shop including fresh bread daily, fruit and veg, newspapers and lots more including a full Post Office service.

Joblings – a local shop selling unusual gifts and garden furniture, located just past The Bruce Arms on the left hand side.

The closest supermarkets are located in Masham 4 miles away – Co-op, or Ripon 6 miles away – Sainsburys or Morrisons.

Situated in stunning countryside at the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, Cedar Retreats is ideally located with a wide range of popular attractions all within a short drive away. There are Heritage sites such as Fountains Abbey, Jervaulx Abbey or Newby Hall; adventure parks like Lightwater Valley and Aerial Extreme; the races at Thirsk ,or a tour of the nearby Black Sheepbrewery in Masham. If shopping is your passion, Ripon, Harrogate and York all offer a wide variety of shopping opportunities, and for the more active there are excellent golf courses, riding, fishing and walking all to be on the doorstep. There truly is something for everyone.
